Cider and the sea (Pasaia)

From: 63,00

Discover the historic relationship between Basque cider and the sea through a cultural and gastronomic experience in two must-visit sites in Gipuzkoa: Albaola The Basque Maritime Factory and Sagardoetxea, the Basque Cider Museum.

The experience begins at Albaola in Pasaia, where you can freely visit the maritime workshop and learn how traditional Basque shipbuilding techniques are being recovered and preserved. It is a living space dedicated to the maritime history of the Basque Country and to the memory of Basque sailors and whalers.

Next, the journey continues at Sagardoetxea, the Basque Cider Museum, where you will discover why cider was an essential food for Basque sailors for centuries and how it helped prevent diseases such as scurvy during long ocean voyages. The guided visit includes a cider tasting in the traditional “txotx” style.

To complete the day, you will enjoy an authentic traditional meal or dinner at a cider house, featuring its classic menu including cod omelette, fried cod with peppers, txuleta (steak), and cheese with walnuts.
